Ask five web designers in Accra for a price and you will get five different answers — sometimes GH₵500 apart, sometimes GH₵8,000 apart. That is not because the industry is dishonest. It is because “a website” is not one product. It is a range of products, and most quotations describe only part of what you will eventually pay for.
This article puts real 2026 figures on the table, including the annual costs that most Ghanaian quotations leave out. It also shows you what we charge at E Light Services, in the same table as everyone else, so you can compare honestly.
1. The short answer
In 2026, a professionally built small-business website in Ghana typically costs between GH₵2,000 and GH₵9,000 to launch. A simple three-page starter site sits at the lower end, an established business site with several pages sits in the middle, and an online store with payments starts around GH₵7,000 and can exceed GH₵30,000. Budget a further GH₵800 to GH₵3,000 every year for domain, hosting, email and upkeep.
That is the honest range. Where you land inside it depends on five things, covered below.
| Type of website | Typical launch cost in Ghana (2026) | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Single-page or starter site (1–3 pages) | GH₵1,500 – GH₵3,000 | Tradespeople, consultants, new businesses |
| Small-business website (4–8 pages) | GH₵3,000 – GH₵9,000 | Established shops, clinics, schools, agencies |
| Online store with payments | GH₵7,000 – GH₵30,000+ | Retailers selling beyond one location |
| Custom platform or web application | GH₵15,000 – GH₵50,000+ | Operations, booking, portals, complex catalogues |
Published 2026 price guides from Ghanaian web agencies and studios largely agree with these bands. One study of 75 Ghanaian providers found an average quoted price of roughly GH₵2,660, with freelancers averaging far less and established agencies averaging more.
2. What you actually get at each level
Price differences make sense once you see what changes.
Starter (GH₵1,500–GH₵3,000). One to three pages, a mobile-friendly layout, your services, your contact details, a WhatsApp or call button and a simple contact form. This is a credible online address — the digital equivalent of a clean, well-printed signboard. It will not rank competitively on its own, but combined with a Google Business Profile it makes a business look real.
Business (GH₵3,000–GH₵9,000). Separate pages for each important service, a blog or insights section, a proper quotation form, analytics, and a local SEO foundation. More pages mean more planning, more writing and more revision rounds — which is where the extra money goes, not into prettier colours.
E-commerce (GH₵7,000+). Everything above, plus a product catalogue, cart and checkout, a payment integration, delivery or pickup configuration, and training so you can add products yourself. Pricing climbs steeply here because every product, variation, delivery zone and payment method adds configuration and testing time.
Custom (GH₵15,000+). Bespoke architecture, integrations with your existing systems, automation and project management. At this level you are buying a business tool, not a brochure.
If your budget is below GH₵1,500, spend it elsewhere first — usually on a Google Business Profile and a WhatsApp Business setup. We explain that order in Website or Google Business Profile: which should come first?.
3. The two numbers every quotation must give you
This is the single most useful piece of advice in this article.
Ask for two totals in writing: the launch cost, and the expected annual running cost.
A GH₵1,800 website that costs GH₵2,500 a year to keep online is more expensive over three years than a GH₵3,500 website that costs GH₵900 a year. Many Ghanaian business owners discover the second number only when a renewal email arrives, or when the site goes offline because a subscription lapsed.
Any provider who cannot tell you the annual figure either has not thought about it or does not want you to think about it.
4. The costs most quotations leave out
Here is the part that causes budget surprises. These are the recurring items that sit outside a build fee.
| Item | Typical annual cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Domain renewal | GH₵100 – GH₵250 | Your yourbusiness.com address. You pay this every year, forever |
| Hosting | GH₵600 – GH₵2,500 | The server your site lives on. Cheaper plans are slower and less reliable |
| SSL certificate (the padlock) | Usually included | Confirm it is included, not a separate line item |
| Business email, per user | About US$84 per year | Google Workspace Business Starter is US$7 per user per month on annual billing |
| Content changes | GH₵0 – GH₵6,000 | Free if you do it yourself; a care plan if you do not |
| Backups and security checks | Usually bundled into hosting or care | Ask how often backups run and how a restore is requested |
| Payment gateway (stores only) | A percentage per transaction | Charged by the payment provider, not your developer |
Two of these deserve attention.
Hosting is the most common false economy. Very cheap hosting is usually oversold, which means your pages load slowly at exactly the moment a customer is trying to see them. On Ghanaian mobile data, a slow site loses enquiries. Our article on why mobile page speed matters covers what this costs in practice.
Business email is priced in dollars. Google Workspace and similar products bill in US dollars, so your cedi cost changes with the exchange rate. A plan that costs GH₵900 per user this year can cost noticeably more next year without anyone raising a price. Budget in dollars and convert conservatively.
5. Why two quotes for “the same website” differ by GH₵3,000
When two developers quote very different amounts, they are usually differing on five things:
- Strategy and planning. Did anyone ask who your customer is and what the site must make them do? That work is invisible in the finished product and is the first thing cut from a cheap quote.
- Content. Who writes the words, and who supplies the photographs? “Client to provide content” can mean weeks of delay for you, and a site that launches half-empty.
- Revisions. Two rounds is generous. Unlimited revisions at a fixed low price usually means the developer has priced for a fast exit.
- Mobile quality. A site that works on a laptop but breaks on a phone is not finished. Testing on real devices takes time.
- After-launch support. Thirty days of fixing defects is standard. Anything longer is a maintenance arrangement and should be priced as one.
A quotation that is vague on all five is not cheaper. It is incomplete, and the missing work resurfaces as a change request.
6. DIY builders, freelancers or an agency?
DIY builders (Wix, Carrd, Durable and similar). From a few hundred cedis a year, and AI builders can now generate a starter site in minutes. Genuinely adequate for a one-page presence. The trade-offs: the domain and design are tied to that platform, moving later is work, and you own the job of making it load fast and read well.
A freelancer. Typically the cheapest human option — often well under GH₵2,000 for a simple site. Quality varies enormously. The real risks are not design skill but continuity: illness, a disappearing developer, or no handover of your domain and hosting logins. Our article on IT and data-loss disasters is essentially a catalogue of what happens when only one person holds the keys.
An agency or studio. More expensive, and you are paying for process: discovery, project management, testing, documentation and someone to call in six months. For a business whose website generates enquiries, that continuity is usually worth it.
The right question is not “who is cheapest?” but “who will still be answerable in a year, and who actually owns the domain?”
7. Red flags in a website quotation
- No written scope. If page count, revision rounds and features are not written down, they are not agreed.
- Ownership not stated. Your domain, hosting and content should be in your name. If the developer registers them personally, you are renting your own business address.
- No annual cost mentioned. See section 3.
- Guaranteed number-one ranking on Google. No one can deliver that, including us.
- A deposit demanded before any scoping conversation. Reputable providers confirm what they are building before asking for money.
- No mention of mobile. Most of your customers will arrive on a phone.
8. What E Light Services charges
Published for comparison, because you should not have to ask.
| Package | Price | What is included |
|---|---|---|
| Starter Site | GH₵2,000 | 1–3 pages, mobile-responsive design, WhatsApp/call/email actions, basic contact form, basic on-page SEO, one revision round |
| Business Site | GH₵5,000 | Up to 7 core pages, blog or Insights section, contact or quotation form, analytics setup, local SEO foundation, two revision rounds |
| E-Commerce Site | From GH₵7,000 | Business pages and catalogue, up to 20 initial products, cart and checkout, one payment-gateway integration, delivery or pickup configuration, basic store training |
| Premium Site | GH₵15,000+ | Custom page architecture, advanced integrations, complex content or catalogue, workflow automation, project milestones, scope-based support |
Related options: a Google Business Profile plus starter website bundle runs GH₵2,000–GH₵3,500, and Monthly Growth (Visibility Care) is GH₵300–500 per month for ongoing updates, checks and reporting. Every website project includes 30 calendar days of defect correction for the agreed scope.
What is not included unless your quotation says so in writing: domain registration, hosting, professional email licences, payment-gateway charges, paid plugins, premium stock media and other third-party subscriptions. We will happily set them up — Google Workspace setup, for example, is a GH₵500–GH₵1,000 service fee on top of the licence — but we would rather you saw those figures before signing than after.

9. Frequently asked questions
How much does a simple website cost in Ghana? Between roughly GH₵1,500 and GH₵3,000 for a one-to-three-page mobile-friendly site from a freelancer or small studio. Established agencies tend to start higher. Check what the annual running costs are before comparing.
Why is one quote GH₵800 and another GH₵5,000? Usually scope: number of pages, who writes the content, how many revision rounds, whether mobile testing and SEO foundations are included, and whether any support follows launch. Compare written scopes, not totals.
Do I have to pay every year? Yes. Domain renewal and hosting are annual costs for as long as the site exists, typically GH₵700 to GH₵2,750 a year combined for a small site. Content changes and care are optional but recommended.
Is a free website worth it? A free builder site is fine as a first step if you accept the platform’s branding, its limitations and the fact that moving later takes effort. Free is rarely free for a business that depends on enquiries.
Can I build it myself and pay someone to maintain it? Yes, and it is a reasonable path. Make sure you keep the domain and hosting in your own name and give your maintainer access, not ownership.
How long does a website take? A starter site is typically one to three weeks once content is supplied. Most delays come from waiting on text, photographs and approvals — not from the building.
What is the cheapest way to get found online first? A Google Business Profile and a properly set-up WhatsApp Business account. Both cost a fraction of a website and often produce enquiries faster. See which digital system your business needs first.

How we compiled these figures
Market ranges were compiled in September 2026 from publicly published Ghanaian web-design price guides and provider price pages, plus our own quotations. Competitor figures are indicative, not verified quotes, and we are not affiliated with any provider named here. Prices in this article are reviewed each January; cedi equivalents of dollar-priced products move with the exchange rate. Always confirm the current figure in writing before you pay.
